B EDUC 399 Course
This course focuses on learning how to develop and compile a critically reflective learning portfolio for the Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies capstone project. The seminar enhances critical inquiry and self-reflection as well as refining writing and collaborative skills. This course is the first part of a two-seminar series designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to construct the capstone product for the Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies. This course assists in creating an electronic portfolio that showcases students’ critical reflection and learning related to the four program themes –
I. Equity in Education,
II. Theories of Learning, Culture, and Identity,
III. Teaching and Learning in a Multicultural Society,
IV. Research and Educational Knowledge – as well as a student chosen fifth theme,
V. Personal Significance.
The seminar guides students in choosing and, as needed, revising substantial artifacts from previous courses and studies as well as helping students to write critically and reflectively about their achievements in various courses and studies, including analyzing readings that enhanced learning during their undergraduate studies. The result is a draft electronic portfolio that is revised, added to, and completed in BEDUC 499 Capstone Project.
